The sculpture collection reflects my perception of the short story The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. The story content brought to mind a rough, wrinkled texture. The swirling pattern represents the nature of Gregor falling into a depression. And the purple, blue, and black colors are also representative of this depressive state and the feelings of sadness and loneliness that come up in the story. The blue wall with bars and a ghost represent how Gregor is trapped by his mind. This is also alluding to the story The Yellow Wallpaper which utilizes the image of a woman crawling in the walls due to mental issues and illness. Similarly, Gregor is crawling in the walls of his own room, trapped by being a bug, which represents his mental health issues.
